Dear colleagues,

with great pleasure we would like to inform you that

you are invited to participate in the
III International WORKSHOP on Point-Contact Spectroscopy (PCS-2014),
which will take place in
B.Verkin Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering (ILTPE) of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Ukraine
on September 8-12, 2014 ( Kharkiv, Ukraine).

The Conference is devoted to the 40th anniversary of the invention of point-contact spectroscopy method by Full Member of NAS of Ukraine prof. I. K. Yanson in ILTPE of NAS of Ukraine.

The First International Conference on Point-Contact Spectroscopy was held in ILTPE in 1991. This caused a lot of interest among the scientists of the Ukraine and many other countries. It was attended by over 100 scientists from Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Armenia, France, Netherlands, Slovakia, USA, Germany, Switzerland, Israel and Japan. Two special issues of the Soviet Journal of Low Temperature Physics with the articles of participants were published in 1992 after the Conference.

The aim of the Workshop PCS-2014 is the holding of scientific meetings on actual problems in Point-Contact Spectroscopy based on fundamental and applied aspects, especially in the research of new superconducting materials and nanoscale structures.

The scientific goal of the workshop is the discussion of the recent advances from the progress in this field of science and the determination promising areas which can give the access to nanotechnology.

The conference will address the traditional problems of PCS of electron-boson interaction in the new and topical compounds, the research of the superconductors: rare-earth nickelborocarbides, magnesium diboride, high-temperature and iron-based superconductors by Andreev reflection spectroscopy, the relaxation and non-stationary processes in point contacts under the high-frequency and laser irradiation, the  nonlinear and non-stationary effects in the conductivity of ferromagnetic nanocontacts due to transfer of spin momentum, the quantum effects in nanostructures and so on.

Conference Scope:

• PC spectroscopy of quasiparticle excitations
• Andreev reflection spectroscopy

• Thermal effects in microscopic constrictions
• High-frequency and the noise PCS
• PCS in high magnetic fields
Kondo-effect in metallic contacts

Two-level systems in metallic PCs

Materials:

• normal metals, alloys, intermetallic compounds

• conventional superconductors and HTSC

• heavy fermions and mixed valence compounds

• topological superconductors

Related topics:
• scanning tunneling spectroscopy
• quantum ballistic transport in two-dimensional constrictions
• single-atomic contacts

The Workshop language is English.

Forms of participation are oral (25 min) and poster (A0 format) presentations.

Book of abstracts will be published before the Workshop.

Besides, a special issue of the Journal "Low Temperature Physics" (LTP) with the selected articles of participants will be published just after the Workshop.

Conference Venue: Ukraine, Kharkiv 61103, 47 Lenin Ave., B.Verkin Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering of NAS of Ukraine.
