Spectral Theory and Differential Equations

STDE-2012
International Conference in Ukraine

August 27-31, 2012, Kharkiv, Ukraine

General Information

The Conference will honor the 90th birthday of Vladimir A. Marchenko, an outstanding mathematician whose works on inverse spectral problems for differential operators and inverse scattering problems gave him world-wide recognition. His pioneering works on spectra of large random matrices and boundary value problems with fine-grained boundaries for differential operators laied the foundation of new areas of research in moderm mathematical physics and theory of partial differential equations. He is a founder and leader of a well-known Kharkiv school of mathematical physics.

Kharkiv is a very special city for V.A.Marchenko. Here he was born, educated, has been working for many years at the B.Verkin Institute for Low Temperature Physics & Engineering and teaching at the V.Karazin Kharkiv National University.

Conference Topics

The Conference will focus on the areas largely influenced by V.A.Marchenko:

Spectral analysis of differential and difference equations and random matrices
Inverse spectral and inverse scattering problems
Nonlinear equations: integrability and asymptotic behavior of solutions
Boundary value problems of mathematical physics and homogenization theory
